Exploring Cultural and Heritage Capital at the Royal Geographical Society Annual Conference 2025

On Wednesday 27 August 2025, four researchers from AHRC-funded Culture and Heritage Capital Research (CHC) projects hosted a World Café session at the Royal Geographical Society Conference 2025, held at the University of Birmingham. The conference theme, Geographies of Creativity, aligned closely with the aims of the CHC projects, which seek to holistically capture and articulate culture and heritage value by developing links between valuation methodologies. 

In a reflective piece available to read here , Laura Taggart (Postdoctoral Research Associate for CHerPP), Elizabeth Bennett, Ajaz Ahmed and Callum Reilly share insights from the session, which drew on the diverse experience and multi-disciplinary expertise of attendees to explore complex questions around cultural valuation. 

These discussions will inform ongoing work within the CHC portfolio and contribute to the development of sector-specific guidance for culture and heritage valuation. The paper also outlines practical considerations for planning and designing World Café sessions, offering reflections for anyone interested in facilitating collaborative dialogue at future conferences.
